Step 1: Reading Your Response Sheet
When you paste your official response link (the DigiALM candidate response sheet issued by the HP examination portals), our parser reads two things: the question IDs and the option you selected for each question. It does not read your name, roll number for public display, or any personal detail beyond identifying duplicate submissions.
Each selected answer is compared against the official answer key. We apply the exam's exact marking scheme (+1 Mark for correct, -0.25 negative marking for wrong answers) to produce your genuine raw score.
Raw Score Calculation
Unattempted questions are ignored — they neither add nor subtract marks. For stream-specific papers (TGT Medical, Non-Medical, Arts), responses are strictly matched against your selected paper key.
Step 2: Ranking You Across Three Independent Pools
A single overall rank is misleading on its own, because selection in HP exams happens category-wise and after shift adjustment. We compute your standing across three distinct pools:
Overall Rank
Your position among every candidate who has submitted for this exam.
Category Rank
Your position within your reservation category (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS).
Shift Rank
Your position among candidates who sat the same shift on that exam day.
Step 3: Percentile Formula
Your percentile answers: "what fraction of the total candidate field is behind me?" A 96th percentile means 96% of submitted candidates scored below you.
Step 4: Z-Score — Standard Deviation Normalization
To place you on the statistical distribution, we calculate the pool mean (average score) and standard deviation:
A z-score of 0 means you scored exactly at the pool mean. A z-score of +1.5 means you are 1.5 standard deviations above average — deep in the selection zone.
Crowd-Sourced Real-Time Data
Every statistic on HP Rank Checker is derived from real, voluntarily submitted response sheets. We do not use synthetic or estimated baseline scores.
- Responses are stored in aggregated, anonymised form for statistics only.
- Duplicate submissions from the same roll number / response sheet are filtered out.
- The sample updates continuously in real time as more candidates submit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my predicted rank change over time?
Because the candidate sample is live. As thousands more candidates submit over the following days, the distribution fills in and your estimated position settles closer to the final reality.
Should I trust my raw marks or percentile more?
Percentile and category rank. Raw marks are not comparable across shifts of differing difficulty, whereas your percentile already accounts for the performance of the entire candidate field.
Does the tool share my roll number or personal details?
No. We read only the question IDs and selected responses to compute statistics. Data is stored anonymously in aggregate.
