HP TGT Selection Process: Commission vs Batch-wise

Understanding the dual recruitment pathways for Trained Graduate Teachers in Himachal Pradesh, including eligibility and HPRCA exam changes.

The Two Pathways to Appointment

Teaching aspirants in Himachal Pradesh typically eye one of two recruitment methods: the Commission (Direct Recruitment) or the Batch-wise (Seniority-based) recruitment. While both lead to a regular TGT position, the eligibility and selection filters differ significantly.

HPRCA Commission

Based on competitive exam scores. Ideal for young aspirants who can compete on an open-merit basis across the state.

Batch-wise Seniority

Appointments made through employment exchanges based on the year of completion of your B.Ed (the "Batch").

Mandatory Eligibility Criteria

Regardless of the recruitment method, the Directorate of Elementary Education HP mandates strict academic and professional standards for all TGT categories (Arts, Medical, and Non-Medical).

Essential Qualifications

  • Academic: B.Sc/B.A/B.Com with at least 50% marks from a recognized university.
  • Professional: 1-year B.Ed or 2-year D.El.Ed/B.Ed as per latest NCTE norms.
  • TET Qualified: Mandatory valid HP Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certificate.
  • State Domicile: Must be a Bonafide Himachali for most regular government positions.

The HPRCA Exam Pattern (Commission)

Following the transition from the HPSSC to the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog (HPRCA), the TGT exam has moved toward a more transparent, Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. The marks distribution is purely based on the written score, with the evaluation rounds being replaced by merit-only selection.

Important Shift Notification

"HPRCA exams for HP TGT are now conducted over multiple shifts to accommodate thousands of candidates. This makes Normalization a critical factor in deciding final cutoffs for Arts and Non-Medical streams."
